November 2010

2k10 was Awesome! (a list of every band we worked with in 2010)

I realize it’s only November 30th, but if Black Friday can now start the Monday before Thanksgiving, then I can do our year end list on the last day of November.  This year has been pretty amazing and all of our guys have worked on outstanding records.  Time to stand back and admire what our guys have accomplished.

Geoff Sanoff & Lloyd Cole in the studio

Was cleaning up my desktop this morning and came across this photo of Lloyd Cole and Geoff Sanoff that I had forgotten to post.  It was taken back in April when Geoff did a session at The Magic Shop for Lloyd’s new album “Broken Record”.  Pick it up at Amazon.

James Brown gets a “Best New Music” for The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

The lovely James Brown had a busy year with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart.  In January he produced their “Say No To Love” single – I know because I was there and brought the doughnuts.  In February they did overdubs and James mixed the single.  In May James engineered the new album demos.  In June & July he engineered the album with Flood and co-produced the song “Too Young”.

In what is hopefully a sign of reviews to come, Pitchfork gave the new single “Heart In Your Heartbreak” a coveted “Best New Music”.  Rad.  Click here to read the review and listen to the song.

Chris Coady is producing & mixing the new Cold Cave album

Chris Coady has spent the last month working on the new Cold Cave LP for Matador Records.  I haven’t heard anything other than demos a few months back, but we hear it’s going really well.  Here is a nice little story on the Plantain Studio (the former DFA studio) website about the project.
