The Pains of Being Pure at Heart on their last day at Stratosphere Sound, with engineer James Brown (apparently the session took a lot out of him), producer Flood and assistant engineer Adam Tilzer:

Chris Coady just produced & mixed a Zola Jesus song

We are all pretty excited about this one! Our  Chris Coady spent the weekend producing & mixing the new Zola Jesus song “Poor Animal” in Brooklyn.  It features guest violins by Christiana Key from Cult of Youth and will be on the upcoming “Valusia” EP out October 12th on Sacred Bones.  Don’t miss Zola Jesus on tour with The xx.  Nika & Chris & a bottle of Poland Spring:

James Brown & Flood in the studio with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

Fresh off producing & mixing the “Say No to Love” single, our James Brown is teaming up with legendary producer Flood to record the new Pains of Being Pure at Heart album here in NYC.  Judging by the album demos James recorded with the band in May, it’s going to be a fantastic album.

Here is a totally unrelated photo I took of the first Pains 7″ I found while record shopping in Tokyo in March 2008:

Kyle “Slick” Johnson recorded and mixed Wavves album gets an 8.4 & Best New Music from Pitchfork.

Kyle “Slick” Johnson recorded and mixed the album with Dennis Herring and it’s no surprise that Pitchfork loves it.  It’s a pretty great record, altho I’m pretty sure Debbi is sick of me playing “King of the Beach” over and over and over….

Alternative Press gives “Say No To Love” a 4 out of 5

Alaternative Press sure does have some nice things to say about James Browns production and mix on the new Pains of Being Pure at Heart single!

“The title track of the two-song release is indeed tidier and punchier than the band’s fuzz-damaged, self-titled full-length. Despite the spring cleaning, though, the title track–as well as its B-side, “Lost Saint”–are just as simple and endearingly infectious as the scruffy old stuff. But where the band used to shamble, they now sparkle”

Kevin McMahon produced Linfinity album gets a 7.1 from Pitchfork

I generally focus on the number Pitchfork gives an album, because the actual writing is pretty hit-or-miss with me.  We’ve all seen the reviews that don’t actually talk about the music on the album until the last half of the last paragraph.  In this case however, both the rating and the review seem to be spot on.  Click here to check it out.
