‘Eric Broucek’ News

A Massive News Update!

photo

It’s been incredibly busy at Just Managing over the past few weeks.  Our guys have been working on some great records and I’ve seen great shows by Here We Go Magic, Haim, Glass Ghost, Trapper Schoepp & the Shades and Bush Tetras.  Mixed in there was SXSW as well… click here to see the photos I took of our friends – no shots of bands playing!  Oh, and above is an awful photo I took of a bunch of the guys getting dinner at Zum Schneider back in December.  Left to Right, it’s Geoff Sanoff, Al O’Connell (not on the roster, but a rad guy who engineered the stunning new Rufus Wainwright album), James Brown, Matt Shane, Chris Coady and Hector Castillo.

Anyway, here is all the latest news:

Kyle “Slick” Johnson wrapped up production on the new So So Glos album “Blowout”.  It’s really great and is already getting played on Sirius XMU.  He is currently producing the new album by Neighbors and will begin mixing the new Bleeding Rainbow album for Kanine Records next week.  All this is going down in his Philadelphia studio.

Chris Coady has seen a bunch of records he’s worked on come out recently.  Obviously there is “Bloom” by Beach House which he produced and mixed for Sub Pop.  The first single “Lazuli” got a “Best new Track” from Pitchfork about 3 hours after it leaked!  Chris also recorded and mixed the Light Asylum song “Shallow Tears” from their self-titled Mexican Summer album.  The rest of it was done by friends of Just Managing Al Carlson and Matt Boynton.  Nice to see so many familiar names in the credits on this one.  Chris also spent some time last year engineering the new Santigold album for Atlantic/Downtown and mixing the new Led Er Est album for Sacred Bones.  More recently, Chris has mixed the new Ruby Suns album for Sub Pop and produced the new Rey Pila album for Arts & Crafts Mexico.

Geoff Sanoff has been busy working at the free Converse Rubber Tracks studio in Williamsburg, including a recent session with Motion City Soundtrack.  The song Geoff recorded and mixed will be given away free in a few weeks via Converse.  He’s also been busy recording new episodes of their “Input/Output” podcast for SonicScooop with his friend Eli Janney.  Check them out here.  Geoff also mixed half of the upcoming James Iha album and recorded drums on the new School of Seven Bells album.  Finally, Geoff mixed The Sheepdogs EP that just won a bunch of Juno’s up in Canada.

Eric Broucek started off the year in South Africa producing and mixing a Desmond and the Tutus album for EMI South Africa.  Eric’s also been busy mixing albums for Classixx and Panama at his Los Angeles studio.

Matt Shane has also been busy working out of the free Converse Rubber Tracks studio as well as producing an EP for Wes Tucker and the Skillets.  Matt will head out on the road with Flight of the Conchords again this summer for their Australian and New Zealand tours

Hector Castillo is also one of the engineers at the Converse Rubber Tracks studio in Williamsburg where he has worked a lot this year, in-between mixing an album for Daniela Spano and working on the Phillip Glass remix album, which he is co-producing with Beck.

James Brown has been in Los Agneles a lot working with Dave Grohl on his “Sound City” documentary.  It’s features a huge, jaw-dropping list of performers that we can’t tell you about just yet.  James also squeezed in a bit of time working with Matchbox 20 and Joe Cocker this year and is currently in Boston engineering the new Dropkick Murphys record.

Check out our photos from SXSW 2012

It was a long 4 days, but we survived.  I tried to take photos of every friend I ran into, but it seems all the free beer prevented many photos from being taken.  Head over to our Facebook page to check out the few that I did manage to take.

Eric Broucek was in South Africa producing the new Desmond & the Tutus LP

Eric Broucek recently returned from South Africa where he spent a few weeks producing the upcoming Desmond & the Tutus LP at Openroom Studios in Johannesburg.  I could post photos of the elephants and wildebeests Eric saw while on safari after the session, but I suppose this photo with Shane, the singer in the band, is more appropriate.  Check it out.

Pitchfork & The Onion both like the new Eric Broucek-produced Eleanor Friedberger LP

The album is out today, and if you are on the fence about it, maybe this Pitchfork and this Onion review will help you decide…

Stream new Eric Broucek-produced Eleanor Friedberger album at NPR

Eric Broucek produced and mixed the upcoming Elanor Friedberger LP “Last Summer”.  It’s coming out soon on Merge, but you can stream the whole thing here at NPR right now.  I’m listening and it’s making me less bummed about being at work after a long weekend, and less afraid about what my mechanic is going to say about my Jeep later today…

Watch new Rubblebucket video for “Silly Fathers” at Stereogum

Eric Broucek produced and mixed the upcoming Rubblebucket album “Omega La La” back in December and now you can watch the video for “Silly Fathers” over at Stereogum.  Videos have really been putting me to sleep lately, but this one I love.  Check it out here.  Paste Magazine also did a feature on them a few days ago and you can check that out here.

Download free Rubblebucket song from forthcoming Eric Broucek produced & mixed LP

I have to confess, I had never heard of Rubblebucket until they approached Eric about producing and mixing their album.  After hearing the finished product however, I have no idea how I hadn’t.  It’s a fantastic, quirky album, and I listen to it all the time.  The LP is called “Omega La La” and it’s out June 7th on Sin Duda Records.  You can head over here to Girlie Action to download a free mp3 of the song “Silly Feathers”.  Do it.  Now.
